"The handkerchief has become a symbol of women’s rights, resistance, and equality. It was inspired by the Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo in Argentina, who wore white handkerchiefs to draw attention to kidnappings and killings of loved ones during the dictatorship. Green has often been associated with health, and with a historic movement to legalize abortion rights in Argentina, the green handkerchief or pañuelo verde in Spanish has come to symbolize hope, defiance, and the fight for change."
