YEARS OF COACHING BY KOCH SUPPORTED “THINK TANKS” HAVE CONDITIONED REPUBLICANS TO IGNORE SCIENCE.
THAT MAKES DONALD TRUMP A HIGH RISK FOR DEATH BY CORONAVIRUS
A cardiologist on Monday called for President Donald Trump to cease all in-person contact with Vice President Mike Pence and be placed “basically on lockdown” during the coronavirus pandemic.
Dr. Jonathan Reiner, who treated former Vice President Dick Cheney, told CNN anchor Erin Burnett that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s admission to an intensive care unit after his symptoms worsened due to the virus was “a terrible cautionary tale.”
“When I watch our leadership do these daily press conferences, I worry for their safety,” Reiner said. “This shows anyone can be infected with the virus, and I just don’t think that our leadership here is taking this seriously enough for their own safety. I worry about the safety of the president and vice president.”
Reiner recalled how former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney were never together in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks “because the concern was that the enemy could deliver what would be called a ‘decapitating attack’” and kill the “leadership of this country.”
“Well, this is an enemy that can do the same thing. So why would you have the president and vice president together frequently when one can infect the other? The president should be basically on lockdown,” he said, noting that Trump is 73 and therefore, due to his age, “at high risk of dying from this virus.”
Coronavirus might determine who is running for president in November:
To see what social distancing looks like watch a press conference of the UK equivalent of the Trump Whitehouse. You have to watch the video as the ministers are too far apart to fit into the camera frame:
The Trump Administration is not doing social distancing:
The screenshots are from this:
"Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) was in the same room as Wajngarten during a Miami meeting with Bolsonaro, and has therefore chosen to self-quarantine even though his doctor told him he was a low risk. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is following similar counsel: “In an abundance of caution and upon the advice of his doctor, Senator Graham has decided to self-quarantine awaiting the results of a coronavirus test,” reads a Thursday statement from his office.
But that’s not all.
In the last week, Trump has had direct contact with two Republican Congress members just before they self-quarantined due to their exposure to coronavirus. Those politicians, Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), had been in contact with someone who tested positive during the 2020 Conservative Political Action Conference. Trump also spoke at the event, but it’s unclear if he came into direct contact with the person who tested positive.
Further, Trump has been on the campaign trail where he’s been shaking hands and taking photos with supporters.
Health professionals I spoke to earlier this week said that Trump, along with the leading Democratic presidential candidates, should stop doing that to minimize the candidates’ risk of exposure to the virus. “That’s really hard because that contact is fundamental for interacting with potential voters,” Ashish Jha, director of the Harvard Global Health Institute, told me.
It’s especially important for Trump because he’s in his 70s. The CDC notes that older adults are “at higher risk of getting very sick” from Covid-19 than the general population is. As such, the CDC advises that older people should “stay at home as much as possible” to avoid contracting the virus.
