Dion Carotenuto said he's been delivering mail in the neighborhood for years, and when he saw the device near the intersection of 14th Avenue and Olive Street, he called police.
"It's the one thing you don't think you'll find while walking around," said Carotenuto. "I see some weird stuff out there, but nothing that would kill or injure somebody."
Officers and police fire crews responded to the scene at about 2:40 p.m. and established a containment zone until the Montgomery County Bomb Squad arrived. An off-duty FBI bomb technician also assisted at the scene.
The bomb squad took the device away, which they said appeared to be "homemade."
Caln Township police said another person reported driving by South Caln Road when they heard a loud explosion and saw debris flying.
On Wednesday, police went to that area and found that a homemade explosive had detonated under a train trestle. The pipe bomb looked very similar to the one Carotenuto found.
Police believe there could be other pipe bombs in the area.
"Kids that are getting off school buses, it's a huge concern for us as a police department," said Chief Joseph Elias, with the Caln Township Police Department.”

The last one of note here in the Coatesville area was David Wayne Hull; the self declared Imperial Wizard of the Pennsylvania chapter White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. He intended to blow up the Peach Bottom Power Plant. The attention to detail by Coatesville PD Detective Martin Quinn led to the infiltration of his organization by PA State Police and his arrest and conviction.
Because we have a black president, a reaction to the possibility of lifting the ban on military assault weapons and a failing economy; recruitment is way up. It only takes a few people like Timothy McVeigh to achieve a deadly effect.
Both the White Supremacist blogs; Stormfront (National) and Keystone Alliance (PA) have information about the "Tea Parties" in PA-times and places.

"In addition to the anonymous trooper, whose name is not being released because of his undercover status at a Chester County state police barracks, West Goshen Detective Sgt. Gregory Stone and Coatesville Detective Martin Quinn were recognized for their investigative work that led to the guilty pleas or convictions of a number of violent local criminals.
'The local police and local prosecutors are and must be the first line of defense in defeating crime in Chester County," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas P. Hogan Jr. "Chester County residents are incredibly lucky to have such good police officers taking care of them on a day-to-day basis.'...
Hogan said the white supremacist cell was meeting on a regular basis in western Chester County -- in the Honey Brook and Parkesburg areas -- as well as over the border into Lancaster County for years before their arrests in 2002.
'The frightening thing about Hull is not just that he hates people because of their race and not just that he wants to be violent, but that he’s teaching people how to hate and how to be violent,' said Hogan. This horrible man now lives in KY where he has terrorized mmy family since he was released in 2012.My husband died last year due to the stress. Local police do nothing.
