Welcome to the Coatesville Dems Blog

Public Corruption in Chester County, PA

I believe an unlikely mix of alleged drug trafficking related politicos and alleged white nationalist related politicos united to elect the infamous “Bloc of Four” in the abysmal voter turnout election of 2005. During their four year term the drug business was good again and white nationalists used Coatesville as an example on white supremacist websites like “Stormfront”. Strong community organization and support from law enforcement, in particular Chester County District Attorney Joseph W. Carroll has begun to turn our community around. The Chester County drug trafficking that I believe centers on Coatesville continues and I believe we still have public officials in place that profit from the drug sales. But the people here are amazing and continue to work against the odds to make Coatesville a good place to live.

Radio Times: “Tackling Crime in Philadelphia”

Philadelphia Police are working on the street in the neighborhoods, with low-tech foot patrols combined with real time data for officers on the street. Police work with community groups; police on the street get to know the corner boys and who is mentoring youth in the neighborhoods.
A lot of can apply to the City of Coatesville. Some of it is already happening here:
"There is an encouraging trend throughout the U.S. — crime is decreasing. That also seems to be the case in large cities, including Philadelphia, where most major crimes are at an all-time low. Explanations include a demographic change — there are fewer people in the 18-29 age group — and improved policing and security strategies. In Philadelphia, law enforcement officials have been collaborating on the implementation of several innovative programs to reduce crime. They include increased use of foot patrols, greater reliance on real-time data to pinpoint crime "hot spots" and an overall approach to prevention vs. arrests. At the same time, as part of its Gun Violence Task Force, the Philadelphia District Attorney's office has implemented GunStat which identifies the most violent offenders in small target areas of the City. We'll talk about these strategies and others and their effectiveness in battling crime with First Deputy Commissioner RICHARD ROSS of the Philadelphia Police Department, JERRY RATCLIFFE from Temple University,  BRYAN LENTZ, head of the Office of the District Attorney's Gun Violence Task Force of the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office and RASHEED SMITH who works with PhiladelphiaCeaseFire. –"

How about a Starbucks at 1st Avenue and Lincoln Highway in Coatesville?

There is no place where you can walk in and just buy or sit down for just a cup of coffee in downtown Coatesville.  City of Coatesville desperately needs a place to buy coffee. A Starbucks at this site would be an immediate hot place to go for coffee.

Starbucks can be a place meeting place for social interaction and business interaction.

The National Bank of Chester Valley Classic Revival Building has ample parking

There is a large 2 story space on the first floor. There is a second floor room with a small balcony over the large interior space. The balcony was designed so that a bank guard with a shotgun could observe the floor below.

Most importantly the property is for sale. There are a few photos of the interior on this page.

I'm not aware of the current state of the building but in the past there was a structural problem with a beam over the ceiling.

I wonder if Pat Sellers is helping out Chief Kessler?

Gilberton, PA is about 80 miles north of Coatesville, PA

I wonder if any Chester County residents or maybe some of my neighbors are pledged arm themselves and help Chief Kessler ward off the blue helmeted United Nations troops sent by Barack Obama. I think former Coatesville resident, "Bloc of Four" campaign manager & 6th PA District Congressional candidate and John Birch Society Charter Member Patrick Henry Sellers might be all over this one:

When they stayed home and allowed the "Bloc of Four" to be elected in 2005 many people thought they were protecting private property rights. They didn't know they were unknowingly sucked into the John Birch Society Agenda 21 conspiracy.

Don Pulver who built the Marriott Courtyard Hotel in Coatesville  said, “People were trying to stop us every day. You had to fight to do the work.” I think the people trying to stop Don Pulver believe that "Agenda 21" is a plan for a United Nations takeover of all private property.

What happened to us in Coatesville in the early 2000s is quickly and possibly violently spreading across our nation. The Republican National Committee has even adopted the John Birch Society insanity:

Republican National Committee Calls Agenda 21 a Plan for Global Control

This video is from the John Birch Society Website. This video starts out kind of sane. Near the end it's batshit insane:

“I've been a member of the John Birch Society for almost 20 years and have been a chapter leader since the early 90’s. I’m not on their paid field staff, so I speak to you today not on behalf of the Society, but as one who firmly believes their mission statement of “Less government, more individual responsibility and with God’s help, a better world”, to be the best philosophy to live by.”
Patrick Sellers, from his “Abolish the Income Tax” speech 4/15/2009
FROM PAT SELLERS CHESTER COUNTY RON PAUL REVOLUTION MEETUP IN GLENMOORE PA:

From HATEWATCH Southern Poverty Law Center:
There will be seminars on Agenda 21 [2], a United Nations sustainability plan that has no legal enforcement mechanisms or requirements, but that the radical right is convinced is a secret plot to impose socialism on the United States.
There will be representatives from the John Birch Society [3] — a primary proponent of the Agenda 21 conspiracy theory...
Most recently, Mark Kessler [9], a self-described Oath Keeper and police chief in tiny Gilberton, Penn., formed a paramilitary militia group called the Constitutional Security Force to fight against proposed gun control legislation. Few knew of it until this week, when Kessler posted a profanity-laced video online that got wide attention. “Fuck all you lib-tards out there,” a heavily armed Kessler says in the video. “As a matter of fact, read my shirt,” he says, turning around to show the camera a T-shirt printed with the words, “Liberals take it in the ass.”

Racism in the 1950s - Racism Now

In the 1950s every black person understood that a black man walking alone on a rural Chester County road risked being a hit-and-run victim and every black woman walking alone on a rural Chester County road risked being a rape victim. A lone black walker in rural Chester County faces less risk now. But that's mostly because there are less rural areas in Chester County.
The KKK, Keystone United, White Nationalist and Neo-Nazi groups are alive and mostly expanding in Pennsylvania. (The Keystone Skinheads changed their name to a " family friendly" "Keystone United".
SEE:
About 10 years ago a young black successful interior designer and her engineer husband were looking at older homes in rural western Montgomery County. There are many 18th and early 19th Century homes there. I advised them to consider their personal safety. The KKK/Skinheads were then and to this day continue to have their "family events" along the Perkiomen Creek. Black people living in rural areas of Pennsylvania even in the more civilized area of Southeastern Pennsylvania need to be aware of the threats to their personal safety.
The thing is she was surprised that her life and her husband’s life would be in jeopardy just by living in a rural area of Montgomery County, PA. I took that as a sign of progress in race relations in the United States.
My interior designer friend grew up in the Germantown area of Philadelphia. She designed interiors for multiracial corporations. Racism of the life threatening kind was not a part of her life. But her mother might have understood my concern.
On Friday President Obama said:
“And let me just leave you with a final thought that, as difficult and challenging as this whole episode has been for a lot of people, I don’t want us to lose sight that things are getting better.  Each successive generation seems to be making progress in changing attitudes when it comes to race.  It doesn’t mean we’re in a post-racial society.  It doesn’t mean that racism is eliminated.  But when I talk to Malia and Sasha, and I listen to their friends and I seem them interact, they’re better than we are -- they’re better than we were -- on these issues.  And that’s true in every community that I’ve visited all across the country.”
I think we have walked a long way. But there's a longer way to go. I believe that each new generation will bring us more together.

THE GUNSHINE STATE-Tom Diaz, Dangerous Gun Laws on Bill Moyer’s & Company

Tom Diaz on Dangerous Gun Laws

July 19, 2013

"BILL MOYERS: I heard you say earlier that the real winners in the Florida tragedy are the NRA and the gun industry. How so?

TOM DIAZ: Well, for two reasons, I think. One, it, in their eyes validates the whole concept of this, what they call Stand Your Ground law. Look, Zimmerman stood his ground and nothing bad happened to him, so that validates the idea that you're going to need these things to protect yourself. Secondly, it increases the market which is what ultimately this is all about. Now they have a case to say, don't you wish you had one of these things in your pocket if some guy was beating your head in the sidewalk? So, one hand reinforces the other."

Web Extra: Tom Diaz on the Relentless Marketing of Guns

"BILL MOYERS: Tom, let's continue. We're talking about The Last Gun: How Changes In the Gun Industry Are Killing Americans and What It Will Take to Stop It.

BILL MOYERS: Somebody has referred to Florida as the gun-shine state. Is that justified, that mockery?

TOM DIAZ: I do believe it is for a specific reason. The NRA has used Florida as what I call sort of a test tube. Florida was the first of the major states to change the law about concealed carry itself. Used to be if you wanted to carry a gun about, concealed, you had to ask for permission. It was called a May-issue. The authority might or might not give you the gun. Florida was one of the first states to change to what's called a Shall-issue state. Later on it led to this whole concept of Stand Your Ground mixed up with the Castle doctrine. So yeah, Florida is the Petri dish and then the bacillus has spread through American Legislative Exchange Council and other media to the rest of the country"

BILL MOYERS: Why the title, The Last Gun?

TOM DIAZ: Well, I think the logic of the title, it's that until they sell the last gun the gun industry will continue to do the kinds of things that I describe in the book. They're not giving up. They, I write, I describe, have you ever seen a wounded snake on a highway where they're just dangerous because they're lashing about? And that's the way the gun industry is. It's, over the long term in bad health, it's got public opinion, I think, in a large extent are weighed against the industry. And they're going to keep doing what they do until they absolutely cannot any longer. The gun people like to say there are law abiding people and there are bad people and we want the law abiding people to have guns. I don't think humanity is that simple. Humanity is a complex of all kinds of people. Good people do bad things when they have access to guns. People who've been married for many, many years suddenly have a breakup, I can't tell how many stories I've read, typically the husband comes home, kills his wife and kills himself. Not a bad person until the moment something snaps and he uses that gun which is there.

BILL MOYERS: The book is The Last Gun: How Changes in the Gun Industry are Killing Americans and What It Will Take to Stop It. Tom Diaz, thanks for joining me.

Do Republicans want to create violent polling places with the "Voter ID Law" ?

If the "Voter ID Law" goes into effect many polling places will become very hostile and possibly violent.
Violence at a some Coatesville polling places was ordinary during the "Saha years". It was a given that Coatesville Police would be needed on Election Days during that time. I believe at least one judge of elections resigned because of that violence.
I believe that if this law goes into effect some local election officers will resign immediately rather than risking their life and limb.
It's difficult to find election officers now. Correction: TWO OF THE SIX COATESVILLE POLLING PLACES HAVE AN ELECTED JUDGE OF ELECTIONS AND AN ELECTED INSPECTOR OF ELECTIONS:
Coatesville Ward 3
Coatesville Ward 4-2
Keep in mind that polling places are off limits to police. In Chester County only State Constables are permitted in the polling places.
I have heard no one consider the "show me your papers" law's effect on election officers.
On the other hand maybe Republicans WANT to induce violence at some of Pennsylvania's polling places. Case in point:
Early on the General Election Day of 2004 several Republican attorneys from Spring City showed up outside of Coatesville's Fifth Ward (precinct 120). When the polls opened they went inside and I saw elderly black women coming out of the polls saying, "They won't let me vote."
When the Democratic attorney was inside the polling place everything was peaceful. When the Democratic attorney took a break, again people were walking out saying they won't let me vote.
The effect of all that Republican muscle in Coatesville's Fifth Ward was stopping long time voters from voting.
I can't understand why they brought in lawyers from Spring City and why CCRC Chairman Skippy Brion was screaming at a Democratic poll watcher inside the polling place in front of voters but I don't have the mind of a Republican.
But I do think that if the Republicans persisted in stopping long time voters from voting there would have been violent incidents at the Fifth Ward.
