Welcome to the Coatesville Dems Blog

Public Corruption in Chester County, PA

I believe an unlikely mix of alleged drug trafficking related politicos and alleged white nationalist related politicos united to elect the infamous “Bloc of Four” in the abysmal voter turnout election of 2005. During their four year term the drug business was good again and white nationalists used Coatesville as an example on white supremacist websites like “Stormfront”. Strong community organization and support from law enforcement, in particular Chester County District Attorney Joseph W. Carroll has begun to turn our community around. The Chester County drug trafficking that I believe centers on Coatesville continues and I believe we still have public officials in place that profit from the drug sales. But the people here are amazing and continue to work against the odds to make Coatesville a good place to live.

The Republican Party as a hate group waging war on the "The Great Unwealthy"

None of the crazy stuff happening in the Republican Party should come as a surprise. I have been trying to spread information about these people for years.  The information is all very well assembled by the SPLC and ADL and various journalists.  I guess the FACT that the Republican Party at least on the national level is an EXTREMIST HATE GROUP is a truth too hard to accept.

The Republican Party has adopted the extremely wealthy extreme right’s War on the Middle Class. Maybe a better way to put it is the Republican Party has been purchased by the extremely wealthy extreme right.

Some of their advocates of the extremely wealthy extreme right's War on the Middle Class live right here in Chester County, I have met them. I believe they helped to finance and promote the election of the "Bloc of Four".

The outline for the War on the Middle Class is:

“Cultural Conservatism: Toward a New National Agenda” [Paperback]
William S. Lind (Author), William H. Marshner (Author)

Washington — William Lind has long been a point man for cultural conservatism, a key player in the world of right-wing politicians, and, in recent years, the head of the Free Congress Foundation's Center for Cultural Conservatism.
As a close friend of arch-conservative strategist Paul Weyrich, who started the Free Congress Foundation in 1978, Lind has developed into an important voice on the Christian right."
When I saw the small photo of the "A Thousand Cuts" installation I immediately thought of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper”.

"On June 18, 2011 artists Ligorano/Reese presented a temporary monument in the garden of Jim Kempner Fine Art in NYC called "Morning In America." The installation was witnessed by hundreds and lasted a total of 8 hours throughout the hot day.
...A THOUSAND CUTS is a timelapse video of the event. The soundtrack was inspired by an excerpt from Senator Bernie Sanders 8 hour filibuster on the U.S. Senate floor against the extension of the Bush tax cuts and the effects on the middle class. It is orchestrated to music by composer/violinist Michael Galasso.

American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is a Racist, Holocaust denier, anti-gay, anti-woman, anti-immigrant organization.

A fact mainstream news organizations need to come to grips with; the Republican base, many GOP Senate, Congressional and court members and the primary contributors of the Republican Party are racist, holocaust denying, anti environmental, anti choice, anti US Constitution, anti American extremists.

“ALEC has been in the media spotlight this week because the Center for Media and Democracy obtained and released an archive of more than 800 of ALEC's model bills and resolutions. Their wiki site, ALEC Exposed, encourages readers to browse ALEC's model bills by topic and share their findings about the documents using the hashtag #ALECexposed.”

A Discreet Nonprofit Brings Together Politicians and Corporations to Write ‘Model Bills’

ALEC was founded in 1973 by Paul Weyrich and Joseph Coors.
“Inspired by Milton Friedman’s call for conservatives to “develop alternatives to existing policies [and] keep them alive and available,” ALEC’s model legislation reflects long-term goals: downsizing government, removing regulations on corporations and making it harder to hold the economically and politically powerful to account.”

By Chip Berlet
"In 1974, ultra-conservative political strategist Paul Weyrich and beer magnate Joseph Coors co-founded the Committee for the Survival of a Free Congress, which evolved into the Free Congress Foundation (FCF). This came after the Heritage Foundation they had earlier helped start moved too far into the mainstream for Weyrich's taste. FCF received funding from the Coors and later the Castle Rock Foundation, but even more so from far-right foundations controlled by Richard Mellon Scaife and his family.
In 1987, Weyrich commissioned Cultural Conservatism: Toward a New National Agenda, which became the script for what has become known as the "culture wars." Four years later, FCF staffers William Lind and William Marshner edited Cultural Conservatism: Theory and Practice.
Rejecting right-wing libertarianism as materialistic, "cultural conservatism" saw itself as based on Judeo-Christian ethics and at first concentrated its fire on gays and feminists, depicting them as sinners. But FCF soon expanded into conspiracy theories about sinister plots, themes reflected in two FCF-sponsored books, The Homosexual Agenda and Gays, AIDS and You.
Race surfaced in 1999, when Lind wrote that, "The real damage to race relations in the South came not from slavery, but from Reconstruction, which would not have occurred if the South had won." Had that happened, Lind added, "at least part of North America would still stand for Western culture, Christianity and an appreciation of the differences between ladies and gentlemen." Instead, when the South lost, the "official American state ideology" became the federally imposed "cultural Marxism of Political Correctness." In a speech to a Holocaust denial outfit last year, Lind blamed "cultural Marxism" on a tiny group of German Jews.
Most remarkable of all, one of Weyrich's long-time advisers on European-American issues has been Laszlo Pasztor Sr. The aging Pasztor, an ardent foe of communism, was active with the Hungarian Arrow Cross in the 1940s, when it was collaborating with the Nazis. Pasztor says he did not participate in the anti-Semitic violence promoted by the Arrow Cross Party. Pasztor currently has office space in Washington, D.C., provided by the Coalitions for America, a group chaired by Weyrich and located in the same building as the Free Congress Foundation, and described by it as its "sister organization."

ALEC ain't a secret no more!

“Through the corporate-funded American Legislative Exchange Council, global corporations and state politicians vote behind closed doors to try to rewrite state laws that govern your rights.
These so-called "model bills" reach into almost every area of American life and often directly benefit huge corporations. Through ALEC, corporations have "a VOICE and a VOTE" on specific changes to the law that are then proposed in your state. DO YOU?”

ALEC Exposed

This is just one of the more than 800 ALEC's model bills and resolutions exposed by The Center For Media and Democracy:
"PAYCHECK PROTECTION ACT COMMENTS:
The so-called "Paycheck Protection movement" is said to have developed in the mid-1990s by conservative Christians in California. The pro-school-voucher group the Education Alliance focused on electing conservative Christians to local school board positions but were frustrated by the opposition of teacher's unions.
Education Alliance took up the Paycheck Protection Act effort to drain unions of resources. The effort was soon adopted by right-wing political operative Grover Norquist, who scaled it up to a nationwide level with his group Americans for Tax Reform, using model ALEC legislation. The National Education Association wrote a report in 1998 telling of a plot by the "far-right" called "The Real Story Behind Paycheck Protection - The Hidden Link Between Anti-Public Education Initiatives: An Anatomy of the Far Right.")
Paycheck Protection initiatives have been proposed in the following states:
- California: Proposition 226 (1998) and Proposition 75 (2005) were ballot referendums that each failed, approximately 53% - 47%; a 2010 Paycheck Protection Act petition failed to qualify for the ballot.
- Oregon: Ballot Measure 59 (1998), Ballot Measure 98 (2000), and Ballot Measure 64 (2008) were each narrowly defeated.
- Colorado: "Ask First" Initiatives appeared on local ballots in three Colorado cities in 2007, passing in Centennial and failing in Greeley and Englewood. A statewide initiative in 2008, The Limitation on Public Payroll Deductions Initiative, Amendment 49, was defeated 61% - 39%. )Various "Paycheck Protection Acts" were introduced at the federal level throughout the 1990s, the most prominent from Senator Don Nickles (R- Ok.) in 1997.)Later ALEC model legislation like the "Voluntary Contributions Act" and "Political Funding Reform Act" went further by prohibiting public employers from collecting union dues that would be used for political purposes.
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker went even further in 2011 Wisconsin Act 10 and stopped collecting public employee union dues entirely. )
This bill makes it very difficult for public employee unions to raise funds for political activities. It would significantly impact public employee unions like teacher's unions and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), whose expenditures primarily benefit Democrats. This bill requires that unions establish separate segregated funds for political activities, and prohibits the collection of union dues for those activities without the express authorization of the employee."

Jobs Crisis Forum

"At a July 11, 2011 Jobs Crisis Forum, Sen. Al Franken, Rep. Sander Levin and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka joined unemployed workers to discuss the nation's jobs crisis. Said Shonda Sneed, who has been out of work since December 2009: 'All I want is a decent job. I want to work."

WAGE THEFT

"Wage theft’ has been a helpful frame for labor unions to fight for their workers' rights. Could it be applied to attacks on public workers' pensions--or Social Security?
July 13, 2011  |
Compensation for work performed is not guaranteed in the United States, even with significant worker protections in place, thanks to the actions of unscrupulous employers. Employers may withhold overtime pay owed, pay less than minimum wage, renege on benefits contracts, and engage in other activities that labor activists label as wage theft; in all of these cases, an employee works as agreed, and does not receive payment or other forms of compensation in return.
"Wage theft" sounds more aggressive, and flashy, than terms like "withholding compensation," which is exactly why organizers started popularizing the term in pushes like the Retail Action Project's attempt to recover unpaid overtime for workers at clothing retailer Mystique and advocacy work on behalf of vulnerable immigrant laborers.”

The TeaPartyEvangalist Republicans control Congress and are demanding default.

“A number of commentators seem shocked at how unreasonable Republicans are being. “Has the G.O.P. gone insane?” they ask.
Why, yes, it has. But this isn’t something that just happened, it’s the culmination of a process that has been going on for decades. Anyone surprised by the extremism and irresponsibility now on display either hasn’t been paying attention, or has been deliberately turning a blind eye.”

Republican extremists are mostly dismissed as ineffectual but they now are in total control of the Republican Party base.

No Republican Presidential Candidate can win the primary without their support. All the Republican presidential candidates are forced into saying in some manner that default is preferable to doing what President Obama wants.

“I've been hearing from more and more people that they are concerned about the debt ceiling negotiations. Many of these people are busy with their daily lives, and they don't usually pay close attention to politics or budget issues.
This concern is probably why consumer sentiment fell sharply in the Reuters / University of Michiganhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/mag-glass_10x10.gif preliminary July survey.
No worries.”

  “No worries”?

“No worries”, I think we should be really worried. We might avert “the greatest financial shock in history”-(Steven Wieting, Managing Director in the Economic and Market Analysis team of Citigroup, in a July 11, 2011 report.) but this is just the very beginning of the 2nd Teavangelist crazed Republican Revolution. Really crazy, insane people control the Republican Party.

The Republicans have a nightmare situation. They have radicalized their party into a political party that will not ever be able to win the Presidency and may eventually be replaced by a new American political party.

Our local Chester County Teavangelists are fairly well known. The best known of them is probably former Chester County Commissioner Colin Hanna now President of Let Freedom Ring

Two times 6th Congressional District Republican Pat Sellers directed the campaign of the now infamous “Bloc of Four” in Coatesville.

Just politics or hate group

"As I came out of the bank on a Saturday morning, they noticed my small flag pin which included the name 'Obama' beneath the flag. I was trapped at the intersection and threatened explicitly with being thrown into the street in the path of oncoming traffic. I was truly frightened! That was the scaryest thing that's happened to me in a long time

I do not understand why they are permitted to threaten peaceable citizens on their personal business in our downtown streets.

Running Government like a business?

I'm tired of hearing people say that Coatesville’s government needs to be "more businesslike" or to "be run like a business". What business? Enron? Bear Sterns? Countrywide Mortgage?
Or maybe businesses like this one that would just move Coatesville to Mexico?
Published: Thursday, July 14, 2011

The “smartest guys in the room” at Enron that didn’t go to prison got jobs at Countrywide, Goldman Sachs and other companies and moved on to new ways to steal Billions at a time like Collateralized Mortgage Obligations.
The last place to look for how to run government is corporations. There is no longer a difference between corporate structure and corporate ethics and organized crime structure and ethics.
