In 1967 Betsy, Ku In Kim & me went to Watkins Glen, NY for the 1967 United States Grand Prix.

You might think I had a press pass, Ku actually was a press photographer. Everyone could be close to the track and in the paddock area when the race was not on.

You could walk into the paddock area and be close enough to touch the drivers in 1967:

Halfway through lap 106, a support broke on the top of Jim Clark's right rear suspension.

Jim Clark nursed his limping car through the final two laps and came hime six seconds ahead of Lotus teammate Graham Hill to win his third and final American Grand Prix. The following April, Clark was killed in a Formula Two race in Germany, but with two more wins (in Mexico and South Africa had already made him the winningest driver in Grand Prix history with 25, one more than Argentina's Juan Manuel Fangio- Wikipedia

Denver Cornett III narrates the story of his father's first race at Watkins Glen, NY in 1948. That road course was used from 1948 through 1952, before being moved to an alternate site. He continues to brings his father's MG back to the Glen for their annual vintage festival:
