1980s Street-smarts were required at the Cheltenham Mall between our home in Mt. Airy Philadelphia & my workplace in Jenkintown PA. Gangs had turf wars at the mall. Today street-smarts are required when shopping nationwide. And the bullets come out of ARs.

 There were occasional gunshots at the Cheltenham Mall but mostly gang members used knives. It was possible to run away it you could run fast. 

Mostly I pretended to be not afraid. Something that came easily to me. I had lots of practice walking day and night in Philadelphia with a Nikon F at my side. Along with being able to run, that worked for me. 

In 2021 guns are everywhere & anywhere. You cannot run from bullets. 

The reaction to gunfire is the same as an infantryman. Drop to the floor. Be a difficult target while you assess what’s happening. 

Anywhere you shop in the USA can become a mass shooting war zone. That’s how we live now.
