I won’t be using my printer so much. Elwood Dixon passed on Monday an hour after I dropped off articles to read at his home.

Elwood had almost no way of finding news about politics & civil rights that was on internet sites. I printed things he might be interested in and an occasional legal document he requested.

If something seems unethical. It is often illegal.

Elwood had an intuitive understanding of law. He knew labor law in detail.

As Supervisor of the Environmental Service Department of the Coatesville Area School District. Elwood kept our schools safe and clean.

Elwood said, "I know where the bodies are buried." I'm pretty sure that was a metaphor, but Chester County has this history...

When our schools were so dirty that parents didn't want their children in them Elwood was called back from retirement to lead the Custodial Workers Union at the Coatesville Area School District.

On September 28, 1934 the world was graced with the birth of Elwood Issac Dixon. He was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania the son of the late Harvey I. and Gladys Henrietta Jackson Dixon. Elwood later met and married Mildred Amelia Norris Dixon with whom he shared seventy years of marriage and from that union five children were born: Deborah, Elwood, Jr, William, Clara and Warren.

On October 19, 2020 while peacefully at home surrounded by his family Elwood departed this life at the tender age of eighty-six years.

Upon graduating from High School, the love for his country and fellowman afforded him the opportunity to serve in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he received numerous recognitions for outstanding service.

After serving he was employed by Scully’s, Lukens Steel, Bell Telephone Company, Elwood retired as a Supervisor from the Environmental Service Department of the Coatesville Area School District.

Elwood dedicated his life to serving the community. He was a political leader, Poll Worker and an advocate for getting people to the polls to vote. A member of the Coatesville Branch of the NAACP he fought relentlessly for the rights of others. Elwood was a founding member of the Organization “CIHU”(Can I Help You). Being a sports enthusiast, he was an avid fan of The Philadelphia EAGLES, PHILLIES and 76ers but none of them compared to the passion he held for the Coatesville Red Raiders Sport Teams( Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track). Although his humanitarian duties occupied a tremendous amount of his time the love for his family was second to none.

His great legacy will forever be cherished by his wife Mildred, his children Elwood Dixon, Jr. ( Jennifer) of Summerville, South Carolina, William Dixon (Delores) of Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, Clara Davis (Bruce) of New Castle, Delaware and Warren Dixon of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, eight grandchildren: Eugene Lambert, (Alejandria), Keith Lambert (Gerriann), Kim Dixon, Jaimy Dixon (Aileen), Keenan Dixon (April), Bruce Davis, Jr., Gabrielle James and Alicia James, siblings: Kim Dixon, Adam Dixon, Christopher Dixon, Shirley Archibald, Delores Dixon and Linda Dixon Johnson, close friends: John Robinson, Jorge Rosado, Jim Pitcherella, William Washington, Hank Hamilton, Nate Alston, Jim Robinson, Emmet and Arvilla Hunt, the Retired Men’s Breakfast Club, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
