Kill the Redevelopment Authority & Coatesville will be cut in half by heavy industry spewing toxic air.

A building for empty nesters, like several projects proposed for Coatesville since 2004:

“While Milosev expects to lure some young professionals, he said the building and spaces were designed to cater to empty nesters, with a large concentration on two- and three-bedroom units with large kitchens and baths and open space for entertaining.

It's a place where empty nesters, if and when they decide to downsize or move closer to downtown, won't "have to sacrifice what they had in their homes, like double ovens," Milosev said.”

I was with Joe Carroll when he spoke with the parents of a murder victim. It was gut wrenching. I don't know how Joe Carroll did it.

Sorrow hangs in the air over Coatesville:

-----------------------------------------------

We have pro-ordinary people, pro-business Coatesville City Councils but we can't seem to keep them in office long enough to accomplish Coatesville's revitalization. And we go back to a pro-drug business Coatesville City Council.

Right now we have a pro-business, pro-law abiding people Coatesville City Council but it's hanging on a thread.

I don't want to go back to hiding from bullets.

Some Coatesville City Council members see a need to fire Chief Laufer. SEE:

Why does Linda Lavender Norris want to fire Det. Thompson, Chief Laufer & Coatesville City Manager Michael Trio?

THAT'S THE SAME CHIEF LAUFER IN THIS VIDEO:

Now some Coatesville City Council members are talking about scrapping the RDA.

To me that means some company specializing in putting toxin spewing factories in Black neighborhoods has found Black politicians in Coatesville with their hands open.

The former CO Carlson Steel Company land dividing Coatesville in half has a business/commercial zoning OVERLAY:

The ONLY thing that keeps a heavy industrial company from building on the flats, the former GO Carlson Steel Company land now owned by the City of Coatesville Redevelopment Authority, is the Coatesville Redevelopment Authority.

Underneath the business/commercial zoning overlay it's heavy industrial.

If the RDA is dissolved, the land is owned by the City of Coatesville and must by law be sold to the highest bidder.

If the Coatesville City Council votes to dissolve the RDA, vultures for the toxic industry companies that no one wants in their back yard will smell out a dying black town eager for table scraps from a corporation.

It has a name:

A few years ago the City of Coatesville was tricked into allowing a heavy industry junkyard in a mostly Black residential neighborhood:

Even with the RDA in place there were three attempts to bring heavy industry back to the former GO Carlson property.

I don't know if the company was Covanta but they do a lot of this.

-------------------------------------------

What attracted developers here to Coatesville was the possibility of Lukens Steel Company selling Heavy Industrial Zoned land in the center of Coatesville and along 2 major roadways to the RDA to be developed and re-zoned as Business Commercial and Residential 3.

The fact that the City of Coatesville is a transportation, commercial and social nexus in the center of development coming west from Philadelphia and coming east from Lancaster was the kicker.

A Zoning Overlay was developed over the heavy industry zoning to legally allow townhouse, condominium and commercial development such as office buildings, stores and restaurants on the industrial land.

Why Bart Blatstein, Baker Properties and Don Pulver were interested in Coatesville

There are 19 comments to the Daily Local Article above. All negative but one.

After audible, developer ready to start Coatesville Gateway project

If a toxic chemical spewing heavy industry goes up on the "Flats"  Jim DePetris will move on.

If the Coatesville City Council and a new city manager kill off the RDA nobody will be interested in locating new business or residential buildings in Coatesville.

Coatesville would lose more tax base and a way to pay for police and community services.

The drug business would be "good again" leading to homeowners moving out and further loss of property tax revenue.

The Crips, Bloods & MS 13 would probably come back and a few people in Coatesville would be in the money again, until they're arrested or shot. We would all need to stay away from windows and not sit on the porch again.

-------------------------------------

There are two kinds of politicians in Coatesville. They're not Democrats and Republicans:

  1. Politicians who want to break away from the drug business.
  2. Politicians who like the drug business and maybe are even in the drug business.

I think the primary business in Coatesville, the biggest moneymaker for Coatesville residents, is still drugs. It's mostly Coatesville that keeps the Chester County Justice Center and the lawyers in it, in business. The drug business keeps the landlords in Coatesville paid.

Coatesville again has chances to climb out from it's reputation as "Cokeville" but we could again be pulled down by people invested in the drug business.

Developers offer the promise of new jobs, new people, less bullets fired, more police, safer streets. But it's not guaranteed. The drug business is here. A few people think it's the only way for Black people to get ahead. Customers are guaranteed. It's dangerous/exciting, lots of money can be made quickly, if you can stay out of prison and stay alive.

--------------------------------------

In November Coatesville voters get to decide if they want to go back to "Cokeville".
