Robert LaVoy Finicum truly believed that government was a threat to his family.

But his family was almost totally dependent on government.
Remember the "Don't let the government take away my Medicare." people?
Robert “LaVoy” Finicum truly believed the government threatened his family and his way of life. He believed that so very much he gave up his life in a shootout.
There's a deep reservoir of pain, anger and hate of Wall Street master criminals and the politicians that leach off them.
The despair that comes from losing a job that you took for granted was secure and understanding you children may have even less chances of making an honest living and living well is real.

Blaming all of it on a government that in reality made his life and his home possible was an absurd belief. But Finicum was drenched in right wing ideology.
There are thousands of people like Fiinicum who mistrust government but may be dependent on government. Many have assault rifles and ammunition buried in their yards.
“You know that gun ownership per capita has gone down but sales have gone up. The people that have guns have arsenals. That is reason for concern. You don't need 20 assault rifles unless you're preparing for something.” Jeff Stanzler

Since his death on January 26, 2016, Robert “LaVoy” Finicum –– the spokesman for the armed occupation that took place earlier this year at a wildlife refuge in Oregon –– has become a martyr to the antigovernment movement nationwide.
Finicum, who protested alongside antigovernment activists during the standoff between Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and the federal government on April 12, 2014, cemented his celebrity less than two years later while outspokenly supporting Oregon ranchers Dwight and Steven Hammond, who were sentenced to federal prison for burning public lands.
“I’m not going to end up in prison,” Finicum stated in a news conference after he helped, along with Ammon and Ryan Bundy, storm the refuge. “I would rather die than be caged.”

“Yet Finicum's day-to-day living was dependent on the government money he received caring for foster children.
Now, foster parents, especially those who care for troubled children, are truly doing God's work. And they are entitled to compensation, both for the work involved in being a parent and for the substantial out of pocket expenses involved in raising children. But it seems at least ironic and perhaps more than ironic that this paragon of getting the government off our backs and radical, near-absolute individualism supports himself and his wife off state subsidies…
Regardless, Finicum's claim that this is another example of the government persecution of him - removing foster children, who come with state subsidies which are his only source of income, because he has abandoned them to go commit crimes against the federal government in another state - just illustrates painfully and comically what a nonsense bubble these jokers live in."
