In my opinion the most dangerous place in the USA by far is a private, for profit hospital.
I believe they:
Don’t have enough well trained staff.
The hospital staff members are barraged with management's cost cutting.
The staff doesn't bother to change gloves because management’s only concern is cost savings and marketing unnecessary procedures.
I would bet that the very same hospitals with a high death rate are often in court for double billing.
I believe that they are managed for their stock price on Wall Street.
You can go in for a cut on your foot and die of an infection a few days later. I think there is no inventive for infection control because a patient with an infection generates more billing.
Our graveyards are littered with the effects of the US hospitals for profit model.
They are the USA’s for profit houses of death.

“One of every seven Medicare beneficiaries who is hospitalized is harmed as a result of problems with the medical care there, according to a new study from the Office of Inspector General for the Department of Health and Human Services.”
I work for a small, for-profit hospital. And it is all about cost-cutting and making a profit. We worry about the quality of patient care. Everybody knows it but cant' say anything because we don't want to lose our jobs.
ReplyDeleteThose hospitals have a reputation that is whispered among nurses and other staff members. Once in a while it leaks out to ordinary people.
ReplyDeleteMaybe even worse, when one particular hospital staff member was allegedly caught transferring patient records to a local political figure, that person was asked for her resignation and allegedly avoided prosecution. That person who was alleged to transfer patient records to a political figure is now working in county government.
