Paul Jansen's Coatesville government was completely opposed to the drug business here. So much so, that the FBI advised him not to move his family into Coatesville.
Coatesville remains as the drug depot for Chester County. I believe that street crime is at a high level because of that.
The high level of street crime is the primary reason that retail stores do not want to locate here. Some retail stores would probably move out if they could.
In Philadelphia drug trafficking and a vibrant downtown can co-exist; Coatesville is too small for that to happen.
If you want real redevelopment you have to go all the way. You can't have a local government that gives a little to the drug traffickers and expect redevelopment. You need a local government that will really go hard against Chester County organized crime and Chester County drug traffickers.
Give the Chester County drug traffickers a little bit and their money and influence will stop anything that gets in their way; such as, redeveloping Coatesville.
