Welcome to the Coatesville Dems Blog

Public Corruption in Chester County, PA

I believe an unlikely mix of alleged drug trafficking related politicos and alleged white nationalist related politicos united to elect the infamous “Bloc of Four” in the abysmal voter turnout election of 2005. During their four year term the drug business was good again and white nationalists used Coatesville as an example on white supremacist websites like “Stormfront”. Strong community organization and support from law enforcement, in particular Chester County District Attorney Joseph W. Carroll has begun to turn our community around. The Chester County drug trafficking that I believe centers on Coatesville continues and I believe we still have public officials in place that profit from the drug sales. But the people here are amazing and continue to work against the odds to make Coatesville a good place to live.

Prohibition of drugs does not serve public safety it reduces public safety.

The best video I have seen on why our "War on Drugs" is a total failure and the terrible need to end the prohibition of drugs.

About Captain Peter Christ

LAW ENFORCEMENT AGAINST PROHIBITION

Prohibition of drugs serves organized crime and the public officials on the take from organized crime. Prohibition overloads our prisons, our court systems and attorneys. Prohibition drives international arms sales and violence around the world.

The economy is not going to improve anytime soon and more police around the country will most likely be laid off.  The primary duty of police is to maintain public safety. Prohibition of drugs pulls them away from maintaining public safety.

In order to maintain and improve public safety we must end Prohibition of drugs in the USA.

Can gun control reduce crime in the US? ALJAZEERA

The two best speakers on this show are David Hemenway of the Harvard School of Public Health and Executive Director of the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Robyn Thomas.

I thought that Adam Winkler's comments while good were not as informative and not very convincing. Mr. Winkler of the University of California pushed his book "Gun Fight-The Battle over the Right to Bear Arms in America".  He appeared to be on the show primarily to push his book.

There is no "Battle over the Right to Bear Arms in America". There is a battle over effective gun regulations. We have no effective gun regulations in the United States at the present time.

Mr. Hemenway did not push his books. They were not even mentioned in the show.

My personal opinion is that universal background checks of gun sales of ALL types would be the most effective legislation. Manufactures should also be required to use some type of firearm microstamping.

Thirty round magazines have no use other than to kill large numbers of people very quickly.

50 cal. sniper rifles are for sale in nearly every gun shop in the USA.  They have no use as a sporting rifle. They are for killing people at very long ranges and disabling vehicle armor at shorter ranges.

Glock pistols carried by police usually carry up to 17 rounds. But 30 round magazines are only for killing large numbers of people quickly.

The NRA appears to favor gun and ammunition sales of all types including straw sales to criminals,  gun runners, milita groups and white supremacists. The NRA represents firearm and ammunition corporations, not people.

ABOUT "BEING WHITE IN PHILLY"

Over all I think the article appears to reflect the attitude of the writer and his individual experience.

I lived in West Mt. Airy in the 1970-80 and earlier in the Fairmont Section of Philly in the 1960s well before it was "gentrified".

Both areas were great very interesting places to live. When we moved in most of our block was black. One black neighbor said he was very happy that we bought a home there, because the police would come when they called. A black Philly PD officer already lived there. Later a white plan clothes Philly PD officer moved just in back of my house. No problems with calling police.

As far as being "overly polite" and the "dance I do when I go to the Wawa on Germantown Avenue" (I went to the same Wawa); Robert Huber might think I am overly polite. But I'm polite to everyone. it's just natural to me. I've been that way as long as I can remember. I say hello to a lot of people who might wonder who that was. I think I know them but I'm not sure. It embarrasses my wife. She usually knows they aren't who I think they are.

But then I grew up in a multi-racial area of Coatesville. All of Coatesville is now multi-racial. Back in the 40s and 50s it was not. Sometimes as a child I would be in the back of a car and the driver would say "Roll up your windows. This is a bad neighborhood." That was odd to me because I walked there every day.

Young men are easy for higher up drug dealers to recruit, no matter their color or location. Teenagers and young men are by nature risk takers no matter what their color. "What if" is not part of the young man's brain and they don't consider the risks in drug dealing. Right now drug dealing and the violence that goes with it is in all states, towns and rural areas across the USA.

I think Robert Huber hasn't spent enough time in the suburbs, like in Chester County or Montgomery County. The drug business in Montgomery County areas with single family homes on 1/4 acre or more lots is every bit like Coatesville's drug business or North Philly's drug business; it's just spread out more. Drug dealers, violent people come in all sizes, shapes, colors and genders. You can't judge any book by its cover.

"Confusion, misread intentions, bruised feelings—everyone has not only a race story, but a thousand examples of trying to sort through our uneasiness on levels large and trivial. I do, too. My rowhouse in Mount Airy is on a mostly African-American block; it’s middle-class and friendly—in fact, it’s the friendliest street my family has ever lived on, with block parties and a spirit of watching out for each other. Whether a neighbor is black or white seems to be of no consequence whatsoever.
Yet there’s a dance I do when I go to the Wawa on Germantown Avenue. I find myself being overly polite. Each time I hold the door a little too long for a person of color, I laugh at myself, both for being so self-consciously courteous and for knowing that I’m measuring the thank-you’s. A friend who walks to his car parked on Front Street downtown early each morning has a similar running joke with himself. As he walks, my friend says hello and makes eye contact with whoever crosses his path. If the person is white, he’s bestowing a tiny bump of friendliness. If the person is black, it’s friendliness and a bit more: He’s doing something positive for race relations.
On one level, such self-consciousness and hypersensitivity can be seen as progress when it comes to race, a sign of how much attitudes have shifted for the better, a symbol of our desire for things to be better. And yet, lately I’ve come to fear that the opposite might also be true: that our carefulness is, in fact, at the heart of the problem."

The rebranded more family friendly, more mainstream white supremacists

"They look like us. They sound like us. They are us," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas P. Hogan Jr., assigned to coordinate investigations and prosecute cases with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Since the election of Barack Obama as President racism is no longer at the fringes of the Republican Party. At the CPAC convention there was the man who claimed black people were better off as slaves:

The “black people were better off as slaves” is standard white nationalist rhetoric.  Twenty years ago, fifty years ago,  there may have been people, ordinary people without sheets over their heads or swastika  tattoos who whispered this kind of stuff in private but now they’re saying it while the whole world is listening.
Man with Militia Ties Accused of Obama Assassination Threat
Posted By Bill Morlin On March 15, 2013 @ 2:55 pm In Extremist Crime, Militias | 1 Comment
Federal prosecutors are attempting to block the pre-trial release of a Pennsylvania man with militia ties who faces a charge in Texas that he threatened to kill President Obama before or during the president’s inauguration.
White nationalists, once secretive John Birch Society members, armed Militia groups and even white supremacists that were once on the outer fringes of society are making political and social inroads across America and Pennsylvania.
The Year in Hate and Extremism
By Mark Potok, Senior Fellow
Capping four years of explosive growth sparked by the election of America’s first black president and anger over the economy, the number of conspiracy-minded antigovernment “Patriot” groups reached an all-time high of 1,360 in 2012, while the number of hard-core hate groups remained above 1,000. As President Obama enters his second term with an agenda of gun control and immigration reform, the rage on the right is likely to intensify.

In this climate of fear and hatred I feel a little safer and I think our Chester County Communities are a little safer because Tom Hogan is back on the job.

Klansman faces sentencing on weapons, bomb charges
GINA ZOTTIFriday, February 25,2005 Residents may not have noticed them, but they were here when they set off pipe bombs, test-fired machine guns and taught bomb-making classes. They blended right in.
"They look like us. They sound like us. They are us," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas P. Hogan Jr., assigned to coordinate investigations and prosecute cases with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Before international terrorists took the spotlight, there were men like Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, a domestic terrorist executed by lethal injection on June 11, 2001, for the attack that killed 168 people and wounded hundreds more.
"To effectively combat terrorism, whether international or domestic, what you need are human sources -- spies, informants," explained Hogan. "They need to penetrate into the terrorist organization on a long-term basis."Obtaining such inside information was critical in convicting David Wayne Hull -- a self-declared Imperial Wizard of the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan who operated a "cell" in western Chester County -- of a number of weapons charges, witness tampering and a charge of instructing others how to use a pipe bomb in furtherance of a federal crime.

Is Istvan Merchenthaler, AKA; Steven Merchenthaler Atilla Mergenthaler, Adien A. Donis, Adien Adonis, Joey Gallow, and T.S… The “Terrorist Next Door”?

It might be nothing but I'm finding some rather scary links. Just sayin:

 From
Law-enforcement sources link Coatesville defendant to explosives
"Court records for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court show that Merchenthaler played a role in the 2009 disbarment of Daniel L. McCaughan, (emphasis mine) a West Chester attorney he accused of defrauding him. McCaughan, who later received a two- to four-year prison sentence for misusing another client’s money, was hired in April 2004 by Merchentahler’s family, who included Boglarka Foghi, a former assistant public defender in Chester County.
The family sought McCaughan’s representation because Merchenthaler had been arrested in San Paolo, Brazil, on drug-trafficking charges, records said. McCaughan bragged that he had “dealings with an influential Columbian law firm specializing in international drug-trafficking cases,” and Merchenthaler’s family paid him $150,000, which was supposed to be transmitted to the Colombian firm through a Canadian intermediary, records said."

"McCaughan enjoys sky diving, playing chess, mountain climbing, biking, and hiking, scuba diving, and exploring the world while seeking new opportunities and adventures. Sic semper tyrannis!"

About, Veritas et Aequitas:

Its base form is the ancient Greek language and stands for "Truth Justice"

To some this is a very powerful combination of words, that have a deep meaning and power of their own.

To others, it is a catch phrase used in the movie Boondock Saints, kindof like a motto."
